Throw me a life raft

Throw me a life raft

This was how I was feeling the other day. Dark cloud over me, feeling like I was defeated. As I was painting the image of a life raft came to me. I added it as the last thing I painted. When I start a painting, I never quite know how it will end up looking, but it is obvious that our paintings are extensions of ourselves. My paintings have a voice of their own. ( I don't feel like that anymore :) .

A showcase of pages and color

I am showcasing a few of my journal pages all together. These are created in my small pocket journal. (click to make larger)

This one is my favorite so far. It was recreated from a page I wasn't so crazy about. I love how the greens and blue background blended so well together. I used Peerless watercolor papers for these.

Angels come in all shapes and sizes

This is a page from my small pocket journal. I used my Wacom Bamboo tablet to create the doodle frame. I am enjoying creating with watercolors. Most of my previous work is done in acrylic. I can bring watercolors where ever I go, they are much more transportable. I use Peerless watercolor papers and I just ordered a Koy watercolor travel kit for my journal bag. I can't wait to get it!

A little page in my little journal

Here is a page from my small journal. I used watercolor, pit pen, and pan pastels. I really like the softness of this one, as I usually tend to choose bright colors. This is approx 3 x 5 inches. (click to make larger)

Inspired by owls

The first three photos were taken through windows in a gallery in North Carolina. I don't know the name of the artist or the gallery, but Jim knew I would love these! I painted my own interpretation of them in my small leather journal. I used acrylic and graphite. I love the whimsy of these, especially the larger one on the top.

My collab with Syd

"You have my heart"

  created by talented artist Syd
If you have been following my blog for a while you will see that I am doing an art collaborative journal with my friend Syd. I am so lucky to have her work in my journal. We have been working in our journals since last year. It is really fun, no stress of time frames, we just create in them when we can and exchange them back and fourth every couple of weeks. When something comes up in our lives, the journals go on the back burner, but we have no expectations of each other, or time deadlines, and that just works out so great for me. I am on "task" now, and will be sending my journal to her every two to three weeks. That seems to work for us! Syd is so talented but, you really have to know her to know that. She is so busy with life, but her artwork shines through. Xo...to Syd.

Bleeding hearts

I am not sure why these are called bleeding hearts. For now I am calling them broken hearts.

Art journal

I love how my journal is getting fuller. I changed my color palette for this one. I am still re-working over old pages. I am using acrylic and watercolor.  I hope you get to take time to work in your journal, you will be glad you did!

A small journal

(click to make large)

I work in several journals at a time. This little journal is kept in my purse. I work in it when I am on the go. I started the drawing with tools I had on hand like watercolor brushes, graphite, and Pan Pastels. Then later when I am in my studio, I add acrylic paint and the final touches.
